"Here's to Dubuque"
As a Musician

ElectedBANNER.JPG

Our city government should provide for the basic health, safety, and welfare of our citizens in a fiscally responsible manner: safe water, superior police and fire protection, parks, library, etc.  I will work to continue Dubuque’s excellent track record in these areas.  In addition, I would like to build on our past successes with an added TWIST:

     *Transportation –  Arterials
                               Regional airport
                               Transit system
We must continue to work towards the building of the Southwest Arterial, look for NW Arterial solutions, promote the expansion of the Dubuque Regional Airport, and improve our under-utilized transit system.

     *Workforce Development – Attraction
                                            Retention
                                            Training
Economic development is critical for the vitality of our community.  We must continue our public/private partnerships (GDDC, DACC) to help provide new and existing business opportunities to grow and expand.

     *Investment –  Aimed
                          Robust
                          Time and talent
Our financial resources are not infinite and therefore we must carefully manage our assets to accomplish our top priorities.  But we must encourage the investment of more than money.  Even more valuable to the community is our citizens investment of their time and talent for the benefit of all.

     *Sustainability– Air and water quality
                            Reclaim our resources
                            Teamwork
I endorse the goal of a becoming a “sustainable city” – where clean air/water and protection/conservation of natural resources are civic priorities.  We will achieve this with continued public/private collaboration.  As an example, an important upgrade to our wastewater treatment is being studied.  I fully support long-overdue improvements to its efficiency and capacity.  And PLEASE - let's have no more raw sewage dumped into Catfish Creek!

     *Tourism – Arts and culture
                     Recreational choices
Trails - riding, walking, urban, historical, etc.
Being a welcoming community to visitors also benefits the citizens of Dubuque with a pristine, friendly city and great arts/cultural choices.  Also, the economic impact of a vibrant tourist industry is vital to the whole area.

Taken as a group, the TWIST issues on which I have focused will make Dubuque more inviting to young professionals and industrious men and women who are looking for a nurturing place to raise their families.  With diverse employment opportunities, more cultural and entertainment choices, and a safe, clean environment we will attract a new generation of “hard-working, hard-headed, big-hearted” Dubuquers.
